Wonderful experience! The Chicken Ann Marie was incredible. The onion, mushroom and bacon sauce put me in a dream state. While in that state, I also had sweet and sour kraut, dumplings and tried a bit of my wife's bratwurst which seemed to be seasoned with a bit of nutmeg. All were incredibly flavorful. Sipped a Warsteiner Dunkel as well. We had a great window seat and a great waiter (Michael). Will be back for sure.

What a terrible experience. We came to this restaurant with high hopes that we would get some great German/Czech cuisine along with a great experience -- wow, were we disappointed. It all starts the second you walk in the door. You don't get greeted while you stand in front of their "wait to be seated sign" and you wait in that standing location for over 15 minutes (not exaggerating)! While continuing to stand and be ignored, you see the staff running around in a stressed fury-- it's ridiculous and incredibly unprofessional. When the hostess-- and I'm assuming part-owner since she had an accent-- walks past you, she just ignores everything about you (I know Eureka Springs has its ghosts, but I certainly am not one of them). We also heard her say "we are so busy and I don't know what tables we have available" to a group of four who were sitting in some chairs at the bar waiting to be seated. They just laughed and said they would stay at the bar then. The hostess then grabs a waitress and tells her to take everyone's name (by now there were four groups of people just standing by the door waiting to get acknowledged), because she has something else to do. Wow. Just wow. So after five minutes longer, the waitress took our name, and we waited another five minutes and got a table. After being seated we thought the bad experience was over-- not so much. Our time from sitting at our table to leaving was over an hour and a half, which I think is a bit much. We got our waters, right away-- amazing. Our waiter (he was nice and apologetic during this whole experience) came over, and said he 'was going to take another group's order, then he would be right back for ours,' ... fast forward to 20 minutes later, he takes our order. We ordered the Hungarian Appetizer Plate, Goulash Esterhazie, and Sauerbraten. When the food came out, we received our miniature appetizer first-- which actually came out very quickly. It consisted of some cherry tomatoes, green pepper slices, sliced meat, cheese wedges, and a spread. It was nothing to write home about. About 35 minutes later, we received our entrees. It was a meat fest. Both the sauerbraten and goulash esterhazie were meat platters that each offered their own unique sauces, which were okay. Not bad, not great. Each plate also came with a sliced dumpling, which was again okay. But again, I had high expectations because the front of the menu touts that their recipes are passed down from their family, etc., and I assumed that would equal some great home cooking-- it didn't. We finished our plates and again waited for another 30 minutes after finishing our food to get our check. It was just completely uncalled for. For a $50+ dinner, this restaurant needs to get its act together and teach its staff manners (the hostess), some lessons in multi-tasking, and just plain customer service. I would not go back.

The service at the table was great, however the food was bland and uninteresting. At a table close by another patron requested permission from the waiter if she (the patron) could photograph a clock hanging on a nearby wall. The waiter turned to ask a manager who was working nearby and received a loud and sharp "No". I thought it was a reasonable request with an unreasonably response.

This was my first time at this restaurant, and let me tell you, I was not impressed. It started when my dining companions and I walked in the door. We stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for 10 minutes before my friends husband had to actually stop a waiter to tell him that we would like a table for 3. After acting like it was a huge inconvenience for him to seat us, he finally led us to a table by the window. Lucky us, he turned out to be our waiter as well! I ordered the weiner schnitzel. While the pork itself was tender, deliciousand fried just right, the rest of the dish was seriously lacking flavor. The peas were straight out of the can-flavorless and mushy. The carrots were barely cooked and were also flavorless. The potatoes were boiled and topped with a scant amount of parsley-and you guessed it.....bland and flavorless! It was definitely not worth the price. I wish we would have skipped this place and went to one of the many other restaurants in town.

We have a been a couple of times, a few years ago. Those times were amazing. This visit, not so much. They weren't busy, but we stood at the 'please wait to be seated' sign for 15 minutes while the staff walked right by us without speaking to us. We finally had to physically stop someone to ask if they were closing. (They weren't ) Then, the waiter that sat & served us, acted like we were putting him out. He was super rude. We started out with the Bavarian plate & sour kraut soup. The Bavarian plate was just 2 small slices of pork, 2 pieces of cheese, 2 slices of green peppers, & a smidgen of Hungarian cream cheese. Nothing super special. The soup was good. Once again, nothing special. My husband ordered the duck, which he loved. They forgot his potato pancakes and gnocchi. I ordered the Jager Schnitzel. It was beyond bland. And served with boiled potatoes, green peas, & carrots. I grew up in a German household & was so saddened that this was being put out as authentic Bavarian meal. Our ticket was well over $60 & we ended up leaving and stopping at mcdonalds. I was more satisfied with their $1 burger. I doubt we will be going back. Ever.

Good food, kind service, themed decorations. The homemade rye bread was delish! We went to have a new experience outside of normal American food, pretty good and flavorful! Loved the goulash but would have appreciated more variety on the plate. The chicken Anna Mari was way good! Food comes FAST, but is kind of pricy (around $17 a plate)! A good one time experience, but it wasn't one that stole our hearts and will become a must go to every time we visit Eureka Springs.

Love this place. Sauerkraut soup very tasty. Highly recommend sauerbraten -- tender and succulent. Husband had Bavarian plate that he thoroughly enjoyed. Took German chocolate back to hotel. Scrumptious!

I ate here about 6 years ago and then two years ago. It's gone downhill and I won't be back. Seems like they're cutting corners. BLAND, to put it mildly. Not very close to authentic either. I've spent plenty of time in Germany and my wife is german (yes some pity is appropriate here. Happy anniversary dear!) so I know what the food is supposed to taste like. It really isn't that hard to make it decent, but this place failed. The salad was expensive and not your authentic salad teller - usually a sampling of carrot salad, radish salad, greens and/or potato salad. This was just a normal small bowl of greens, couple of cucumber slices and grape tomatoes, but with a good vinaigrette. Not worth $5. I had the jaeger schnitzel. It was a good portion of somewhat tender and juicy meat, but the sauce was weak and bland. The veggies - peas, carrots and potatoes - were worse than the sauce. The carrots and potatoes seemed fresh, but the peas were straight out of the can. There was NOTHING on them - no butter, herbs, sauce, not even a grain of salt. This was total dietary restriction food here... There are way too many restaurants in Eureka Springs to waste your time and money here.

This was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Chicken Anna Marie was thin, tender, moist and yummy. Roast duck was excellent: seasoned with caraway seeds and cooked to crispy perfection. Fresh bread, dumplings and sweet and sour pickled cabbage were delicious sides. Finished with a lemon cake with butter cream frosting--made with fresh lemons and real butter... just right...not too sweet. The service was friendly, helpful and appropriate. We've been here several times now and will keep coming back when we're in town.

After coming here previously, we were extremely disappointed. Both my husband and I ordered beer but didn't get what we ordered. I asked for water when we ordered drinks and had to request it a second time. The salad had a good dressing but was over priced. My daughter ordered Schnitzel which was flavorless and dry. My husband's Jaeger Schnitzel was good but the vegetables were again flavorless. Overall, the special I ordered had good flavor but the Sauerkraut appeared to be straight out of a can. I had to convince my family to form our own opinion advert reading the Yelp reviews but I doubt we'll ever go back.

I've been visiting Eureka Springs for years, and this used to be my favorite restaurant. It was so good, I remember eating there twice when I was in town for a long weekend! This despite their infuriating policy of no substitutions. I never cared for the mixed vegetables they serve with so many of the entrees, but hey, the entree was worth it. My, how the mighty has fallen. I continue to visit the town every year, and unfortunately Bavarian gets worse every visit. The sauerbraten used to be served with a rich, creamy vegetable gravy. It's now covered in a brown gravy that either comes from a can or an envelope. The weiner schnitzel is tough and kind of greasy. The sauerkraut soup is still good, but that's really about it. What happened. New management? New staff? I don't know, but I wish it would improve, so I could go back to my favorite restaurant in Eureka Springs!

Excellent food and service. We asked for recommendations from the waiter and he nailed it. The Wiener schnitzel was excellent when paired with the light pilsner he recommended. We will eat here again each time we visit. The desserts were spot-on in size and taste. The chocolate cake is to die for. The wait staff has clearly been working there for MANY YEARS and really know the place and menu. Listen to their recommendations.

Despite the low rating on yelp, I wanted to try this place. Good choice! We came in to a near empty restaurant (Eureka doesn't get hopping for another week or two) and received a lot of attention from our waitress. She was extremely helpful when we were both indecisive about a meal choice. The beer selection was good but didn't contain anything I couldn't find in my local liquor store. The wife ordered the jäger schnitzel. The bright and colorful veggies contrasted the brown gravy. The meat was great but the potatoes were flavorless. The peas and carrots were very tasty. I ordered the Bavarian plate after a recommendation from our server. (I had it narrowed down to 5 dishes!) the bratwurst was flavorful and had a good snap. The pork was juicy. I really loved the sauerkraut. It had kind of a lemony flavor that set it off. Even my wife who doesn't eat sauerkraut liked it. Great experience. Great food. You won't be disappointed.

We went with a northern German native who doesn't hesitate to criticize German food not up to her standards. And she says 'lekker.' Delicious! You must like gravy to enjoy this. The dumplings are Czech bread dumplings - strange to those not familiar but are traditional according to our native. We were lucky enough to be there on a night when a polka band played. The band consisted of grandparents and grandkids. Super fun. They also have American items for less adventurous and a kids menu.

Loved it. We had the roasted pork special and I inhaled it. Really delish. The only odd thing was the dumplings which seemed like crust less spongy bread. Not good. Otherwise it was a lot of fun. Great server as well. He seems to love his job. Very cute kitschy German decor. I would go back.

I was looking forward to some good German food. I felt this was fairly average. We waited in an empty lobby for 10 minutes to be seated. I just found the food and the experience very disappointing.

Most reviews here being high, I was expecting great. I was troubled by the low reviews of people who have actually been to Bavaria, but thought they were just being hard on the place. They weren't. Daniel B., who lived there over a year, was dead on. I lived in southern Germany for 3 years and traveled all over the Bavarian region and I assure you, this restaurant is far, far from authentic. They lean in that direction, but it is off-target and bland compared to the real thing. Like a lot of tourist places, this place is mostly show (nice architecture and environment) without substance (real Bavarian food). If you served this food in Bavaria, you would be out of business in a month. It is was OK, but way overpriced for what we got and left me wishing I had stopped at McDonalds for a Angus burger. Specifically: - No substitutions. None. Not mashed for boiled potatoes, not cabbage for carrots, not anything for anything. Not allowed. The limited menu is what it is and you take it or leave it. Really? - The staff will almost insist you get the sauerkraut soup appetizer (the only soup they have), and we did. Meh. Nice, but nothing special. Kind of sauerkraut-flavored potato soup. At about $6, it was disappointing. - Table bread was heavy rye and American butter tubletts. Eh. OK, but dried out. It was good for soaking up soup or gravy, but bland alone. Free, and worth the price. - My wife got the jäger schnitzel. The schnitzel was thin, a bit rubbery, and tasteless. No way - NO WAY - that was fresh real pork meat tenderized/pounded flat in the local kitchen. It has to be bulk-purchased frozen patties floating in a pool of brown-gravy mushroom sauce. The mushrooms were sliced, thin, scarce, and low on flavor. My wife ended up trading with me because it was so bland. At $17, it was a rip-off. - The side dishes with the jäger schnitzel were a small pile of under-cooked carrot sticks and some canned or frozen peas. I like a little crunch/snap in my vegetables, but these were just the other side of raw and went uneaten. The peas were like any bagged frozen green peas you could get at the grocery - and they probably did. I don't ever remember getting served peas and carrots with my jäger schnitzel in Germany, so not sure why they did this; there was nothing complementary about it. - I really wanted some pickled cabbage a 'la Germany, so ordered it as a side. A medium bowl of red cabbage came and it was - eh, OK. Low on taste, uninteresting, but passable. At $4, another letdown. - I got the sauerbraten The beef was lean, tender, and tasty, but they drowned the slices in an Olympic-sized pool of brown gravy, It came with boiled potatoes and dumplings (boiled dough) that were unremarkable and needed the gravy to give taste. Another $17 down the tube. - Apple Strudel. Despite others' warnings here, we decided to get it. Mistake. Crunchy pastry on the outside (good!), dusted in powdered sugar (good!), but stuffed with dry, rubbery apple slices inside. The accompanying vanilla ice cream was uninspiring - probably local, generic brand ice cream from a carton. We literally could not eat it it was so bad. At $6, the biggest disappointment of the night. There it is. Our server was GREAT, but the food was beneath her and the entire experience was flat. We won't be back. With no extra drinks and a 20% tip for good service, it was $75 down the toilet that I'll now just forget about.

I lived in Germany for over a year and spent time traveling in the Czech Republic so when I saw the Bavarian Inn restaurant boasting authentic German and Czech food I got excited! Big disappointment! The potato pancakes were most likely processed and frozen before making it to my dinner plate. The dinners of both my coworkers were served with pale green canned peas. The pork tenderloin was most likely a piece of thickly cut pork lunch meat thrown on the grill. The Rye bread was bland and tasteless. The only redeeming factors of the meals that I saw served were the steak my coworker order--it looked good and was cooked at a nice medium rare. The Czech steamed bread dumplings were decent too, similar to what I remember in Prague. Finally the sauerkraut soup was pretty good although it could have been served hotter. Definitely though not worth the $25 per plate price tag!

The past couple times I have been to Eureka, I have wanted to stop at the Bavarian Inn. Of course, It was always too early or too late. They open at 5 pm. They also are closed for 3 months in the winter. This recent trip i FINALLY got to try it. The staff were all very friendly. Everyone greeted us at the door and all the way to our table. Maybe it was cause it was there second day back from a 3 month furlough or maybe they are always that kind. Judy, our server, was very nice. She really loves her job and really loves the sauerkraut soup! I admit, I didn't try it.Not really a fan of sauerkraut.... BUT pretty much everyone around us did. It seems to be a big hit.Lots of people asking for the secret recipe. So, Ill try it next time. Judy loves to intermingle the tables. Show each other the food. Especially if she knows you were debating one thing and picked another. Anyways, on to the food..... I ordered the Goulash Esterhazie. Let me just say, I really debated getting the duck but I'm glad i got this. The meat is very tender. Just melts in your mouth. The dumplings are good, but i suggest after experimenting with it. The meat and dumpling smothered in gravy on the same fork combo is the best. lol I was told if you do decide to order the duck. You should either A, call ahead or B, get there early. It goes fast and is very good. Next time, I'm getting the duck. The hubs got wiener schnitzel. I tried it. it wasn't bad. Not my cup of tea. but it was not a frozen cut of meat. Def smacked around with a mallet. it was flavorful. Hubs really liked it. We did order dessert to go. We both got the apple Strudel. Honestly, wasn't a fan. It was basically not very flavorful cooked apples wrapped in a phillo dough. It just wasn't up to par with the other food we had that night. All in all we will return again. It was a pleasant experience.

I was totally pumped to whet my carnivorious appetite with some good German & Czech food at Bavarian Inn. Here comes the BUT, but....i was very let down. I ordered the Goulash Esterhazie and the meat was unflavorfully dry. The gravy was also pretty bland. The hubs ordered a vegetarian plate and a side of bratswurst. The vegetables were ok; probably could use a little salt and the potato pancakes were decent. The bratwurst was probably the only thing that saved our meal! Since we were determined to try to bump up our ratings on yelp, we decided to try the apple strudel. OMG BIGGG mistake! The crust was not fresh, flaky and crunchy. The apples were not flavorful. *sigh* Don't think I dare give this place a chance again although the owner was very friendly and helpful. p.s you can look at the pictures of what we ate and you can decide for yourself :)

Well, we'd like to eat at the restaurant, but it is closed now until March. If it's closed 3 months out of the year, it must not need our business.

Can you spell B-L-A-N-D? We started off with the sauerkraut soup. It was very good, leading to high expectations, even though it was not served very hot. Then on to the main courses. My dining partner and I split two main dishes: the Bavarian Plate and the Jagerschnitzel (pork cutlet). Disappointing. The portions were ample, but the seasoning was almost nonexistent. The mushroom gravy over the pork cutlet was the only thing that stood out. The side vegetables were overcooked and mushy. To its credit, the restaurant's atmosphere is very much what you'd expect from a nice German-style restaurant without being tacky, and our server was very helpful and on the ball. We skipped dessert, fearing that other Yelpers who had weighed in on this place as serving mediocre fare were right.

I think its a tourist trap. The bratwurst and the beer are good, but one of those (and maybe both) is not something that they can really claim responsibility for. Why am I being so harsh? Its because most of the meal seemed like stuff that was pulled out of a can. The beef in the goulash was tough and dry, and the gravy that it was smothered in almost seemed like it came out of a can. The vegetables that were served seemed like they were bland and most likely came out of a can. The potato pancakes were decent, but then the entire meal was pretty much ruined by an strudel that was little more than mushy apples wrapped in chewy puff pastry. For the price of the meal, we could have stocked up on enough canned goods to feed us for an entire week!

I have eaten here many times over the years and have never had a bad meal. Their goulash is my absolute favorite and the duck is a close second. Do not come here without trying their sauerkraut soup. It is absolutely delicous! The decor could definitely use some updating, but the restaurant is comfortable and quiet. I don't remember the name of our server, but we've had him many times, and he is always friendly and helpful.

I found the food here to be very good. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. A good selection of German beers too. The menu is somewhat limited. I had the Jagerschnitzel and thought it was delicious. The apple strudel dessert was awesome.
